Neura Robotics and Drees & Sommer partner on robotics-ready buildings

Neura Robotics has announced a strategic partnership with Drees & Sommer to transform buildings into intelligent, interactive systems that learn and operate in real-time alongside both humans and robots.

Initially, the partnership will focus on automating sanitary facilities, an area with high demand for automation, hygiene, and constant availability.
This partnership signifies a new approach to architecture and technology, where buildings are designed to be adaptive, with increasingly automated, safer, and more efficient processes. Robotics integration will be a fundamental consideration from the very beginning of the design phase.
Sanitary facilities were chosen as the initial focus due to high usage, stringent hygiene requirements, and a shortage of skilled staff. Cognitive robots can detect contamination, respond to real-time needs, restock supplies, and report technical issues proactively, leading to more reliable operations, improved cleanliness, and enhanced safety.
Central to this collaboration is the "Sensorized Environment" concept. This involves recording and analysing data from light, motion, temperature, sound, and other signals in real-time to optimise interactions between people, spaces, and robots. This effectively creates a "digital nervous system" for the building, enabling robots not just to operate within the building, but to truly collaborate with it.
Drees & Sommer brings its expertise in planning, sensor technology, digital twins, and IT/OT networks, while NEURA Robotics contributes its cognitive robotics, AI fundamentals, and interface knowledge. Together, they aim to create buildings that are not only efficient but also capable of learning, interacting, and adapting, ushering in a new era of modern infrastructure.
Dierk Mutschler, Member of the Executive Board at Drees & Sommer, said: “We are connecting the physical and the digital worlds, thus creating the conditions for robots to interact better with their environment and with humans in the future. This opens up new possibilities for use in nursing and care facilities, production, office buildings and airports.”
David Reger, CEO of NEURA Robotics, added: “Very soon, robots will not only be tools, but will be fully accepted as intelligent companions in our buildings. They will be networked, self-learning and autonomous, and will clean, service and maintain in precisely those areas in which there is currently a shortage of skilled workers. This will create environments that considerably reduce people’s workloads. Robots save time, enhance safety and allow us to concentrate on what really matters.”
