ABP and Vesteda join forces again on affordable mid-rent housing

ABP and Vesteda are partnering again to speed up the creation of affordable mid-range rental homes in high-demand urban areas across the Netherlands. 

As part of their Affordable Living Venture (ALV), they have committed €400 million to build over 1,100 homes, with at least half being affordable mid-rent properties for middle-income families. The first investment decisions are anticipated in early 2026.
These new developments will prioritise sustainability, aiming for high energy efficiency to reduce resident costs and secure certifications like BREEAM-NL In-Use Excellent and CRREM alignment. 
Vesteda, which originated from ABP's residential portfolio in 1998, has grown to manage over 28,000 homes, focusing on mid-rental and sustainable housing. 
ABP currently owns about 33% of the Vesteda Residential Fund through APG.
Harmen van Wijnen, chair of the Board of Trustees ABP, said: “This new partnership for the construction of affordable rental homes represents another important step in ABP's long-term strategy. By joining forces once again with Vesteda, a partnership that goes back decades, we can realise projects that not only contribute to solving the housing shortage but also generate stable returns in the long term. These investments, therefore, generate both financial and social returns.”
