BayernLB and Catella secure €47m green loan for residential district

German bank BayernLB and real estate company Catella are providing a €47 mln green loan to finance the completed Südviertel district, the first phase of the Seestadt development in Mönchengladbach. 

This eco-friendly project features 248 rental apartments and 134 underground parking spaces, built using sustainable materials and methods, including a CO2-free energy system. 
Südviertel is the largest certified KlimaQuartier (climate-friendly district) in North Rhine-Westphalia. 
Located near Mönchengladbach's main train station, the first twelve apartments range from 48m2 to 105m2 and consist mainly of two- to four-room units. Further Seestadt developments are planned.
Catella's Seestadt project is creating a 14-hectare "10-minute city" near Mönchengladbach's main train station and city centre, integrating living, working, leisure, and other amenities within walking distance. 
The development will include around 2,000 apartments for diverse demographics, office spaces, restaurants, and services, potentially generating 2,000 jobs. 
A central 20,000 m² lake enhances the microclimate, supports biodiversity, and provides a recreational space. 
Recognized for its innovative energy concept and urban design, Seestadt is part of a federal energy transition initiative and is North Rhine-Westphalia's largest certified KlimaQuartier.
