BPI funds new hotel in Portugal with €30m green loan

Portuguese bank BPI has provided a €30 mln green loan for the construction of the new Evolution Gaia hotel in Porto.

The loan, with a term of 15 years, was granted to Intra Douro – Investimentos Turísticos, a company within the Azinor group (known for SANA Hotels).
This 4-star hotel, featuring over 185 rooms, a restaurant, gym, and spa, will be located in Vila Nova de Gaia with views of the Douro River and Porto's historic centre.
Slated to open in 2026, Evolution Gaia will emphasise new technologies and an unconventional style while maintaining SANA's standards of comfort. The project includes a strong focus on sustainability and will undergo energy certification. This financing aligns with BPI's Sustainable Banking strategy, highlighting its commitment to green solutions.
The Azinor Group, a major Portuguese hotel operator with 17 units and over 2,900 rooms under the SANA Hotels brand, is expanding with innovative, technology-driven concepts like the Evolution brand.
