European real estate operator Covivio, through its subsidiary Covivio Hotels, has acquired a new Meininger hotel in Porto, Portugal, for €31.6 mln from Eiffage.

Meininger Hotel Porto
This move is part of Covivio's strategy to strengthen its position in dynamic Southern European markets.
The 3-star Meininger hotel in Porto will feature 228 rooms and is expected to begin construction in early 2026, with the opening scheduled for the second half of 2028. Upon completion, Meininger will operate the hotel under a 20-year lease agreement.
Located in Porto's Bonfim district, the hotel will be well-connected, situated near the new Campanhã multimodal terminal, which offers access to trains, metro, buses, and a future high-speed train. This strategic location is ideal for the target clientele of young travellers, families, and groups.
The project emphasises sustainability, aiming for BREEAM Very Good and LCBI Standard certifications, and will align with European taxonomy. This acquisition builds on a previous collaboration with Eiffage and marks the fourth establishment in Covivio's partnership with Meininger, which also includes hotels in Paris, Lyon, and Munich.
