Edge and Akiş REIT form Berlin residential partnership
Pan-European real estate developer and investor Edge has joined forces with Akiş REIT in a strategic partnership to develop a new residential project in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Berlin-Lichtenberg
The planned development, which will comprise over 150 units, represents a significant milestone for both companies: it marks Akiş REIT’s entry into the German market and further expands Edge’s growing Build-to-Rent platform.
Situated in Berlin-Lichtenberg, the project will be located in a well-connected urban district with excellent public transport links and proximity to educational facilities and local amenities. The development is designed to help alleviate Berlin's pressing need for high-quality rental housing while contributing to the ongoing revitalisation of the surrounding neighbourhood. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected in 2029.
This collaboration leverages Edge’s extensive track record of delivering sustainable, innovative, and occupant-focused real estate across Europe, combined with Akiş REIT’s financial strength and international expansion goals.
For Edge, the Berlin-Lichtenberg project is a key component of its broader residential strategy in Germany, which concentrates on creating sustainable, future-proof housing in major European markets. By forming strategic alliances with institutional investors and capital partners, Edge continues to scale its BTR platform to meet the rising demand for high-quality urban living spaces.
Levent Çanakçılı, Board member and general manager of Akiş REIT, commented: “Our first investment in Berlin represents not only a new project partnership but also a tangible reflection of our long-term growth vision. The project is particularly important as it will provide a sustainable and future-oriented living environment. We are pleased to collaborate with Edge, a strong development partner, in one of Europe’s most dynamic real estate markets. We will continue to closely monitor opportunities across Europe and other markets while focusing on investments that create sustainable value.”
Jan Salzmann, managing director and co-head Germany at Edge, added: “We are deliberately expanding our platform into BTR to address one of the most pressing structural gaps in European real estate. There is a clear and persistent undersupply of high-quality, institutional rental housing, particularly in core markets like Berlin, and we see BTR as a key pillar of our evolution from developer to investment manager. Our ambition is to build a scalable platform together with strong capital partners, combining development capability with long-term asset ownership. We are particularly pleased to partner with Akiş REIT, which shares this long-term vision and can grow with us as we expand the platform.”
