UK property developer and investor Great Portland Estates (GPE) has received planning permission from Camden Council to refurbish Whittington House in London's West End.

Whittington House
This 6,921 m2 project will transform the building into a modern, sustainable headquarters featuring its original Richard Seifert & Partners design from the 1970s, with eight floors of office space, amenities, and a new rooftop terrace.
This development, combined with nearby GPE properties (Whittington House, Gable Building, the Courtyard Building and the existing holdings at 31/34 Alfred Place), will create a 20,438 m2 complex of premium office space near Tottenham Court Road – Elizabeth Line station, offering diverse workspaces and operational benefits for GPE.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2027.
Trevor Phyo, senior development manager at GPE, said: “Securing planning permission from Camden Council marks a significant milestone for this project. We’re proud to be breathing new life into this building, recognising its architectural heritage, and transforming it into a standout workplace that reflects the future of office design. This development strengthens our HQ portfolio and reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional spaces in prime London locations.”
GPE acquired the special purpose company holding the long leasehold interest of Whittington House, for £58.5 mln (€68.3 mln) in November 2024.
