This initiative comes a year after HAL REIM acquired its first data centre for its 'HAL Digitale Infrastruktur Deutschland I' fund.
HAL DCD will manage the entire data centre development process, from land acquisition and planning to construction, financing, and leasing. The platform will focus on developing turnkey data centres with IT capacities of 10 MW or more, offering various investment opportunities, including property development, construction, and stabilised assets tailored to different risk-return profiles. This includes colocation data centres, hyperscalers, and large-scale AI and cloud industry campuses, with joint venture structures also available.
Peter Pohlschröder, a renowned data centre expert with over 20 years of experience in the property sector, has been appointed managing director of HAL DCD and co-head of Digital Infrastructure at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe Privatbank. He previously built up the data centre business for NDC-Garbe Data Centers Europe and serves as deputy chairman of the German Data Centre Association. He will co-manage HAL DCD alongside Patrick Brinker, head of HAL REIM, and Piet Wienke, co-head of Digital Infrastructure Investment at HAL REIM.
Michael Bentlage, chairman of the Management Board of Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe Privatbank, said: "In order to strengthen the competitiveness of Germany as a business location, it is important to accelerate the expansion of the digital infrastructure. With our new platform, we offer international investors a unique opportunity to engage in this dynamic growth sector and achieve strong returns."
Patrick Brinker, head of Real Estate Investment Management at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe Privatbank, added: „The newly founded platform combines data centre expertise with asset management, structuring experience, access to operators, access to various sources of capital and project development experience. The aim is to bring together all stakeholders such as landowners, operators, authorities, electricity and grid operators, financiers and investors as an operating partner."
HAL REIM has been involved in the financing of data centres for five years and launched ‘HAL Digitale Infrastruktur Deutschland 1’ at the end of 2023, the only special AIF for investments in German digital infrastructure to date.
