What do you hope to achieve at MIPIM this year?

We are here to showcase the dynamism of our region. We want to communicate a lot of good things which are happening in our region and tell our story.  

What makes your area a compelling investment proposition?

Space and talent! Land availability is a well-known constraint across much of Germany, but Leipzig stands apart; we still have the room to grow and develop at scale.  Secondly, we are a growing region, young professionals and families are moving to Leipzig to access affordable housing and a high quality of life; we have the human resources to support
sustained development.

What is the biggest challenge your area faces?

Leipzig is a region in transition. The German federal government's commitment to ending coal mining by 2038 presents a significant structural challenge for our region, which has historically relied on this industry as a cornerstone of its economy.  It is therefore important to identify new industries and opportunities. 

What project in your area are you most excited about?

We are particularly excited about the development opportunities surrounding Germany's only 24/7 operational airport. This enables significant opportunities for manufacturing and logistics operations.  The DHL hub of Europe is located there alongside other international companies. There are great opportunities for investors and developers to be partners in the final planning stages to ensure the projects meet their specific needs.
