New Wave and Flower to develop large-scale battery storage systems

New Wave Real Estate Netherlands and Swedish energy developer Flower have partnered to develop Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium.

This collaboration aims to identify and develop industrial sites suitable for large-scale battery storage, a vital component of Europe's shift towards renewable energy.
A core aspect of the partnership is a shared strategy regarding grid connections. Flower plans to develop sites with long-term potential, even where initial grid capacity is limited, by utilising flexible solutions such as smaller connections or phased development. New Wave Real Estate will assist by structuring these sites, establishing contracts, and coordinating with landowners and government bodies.
New Wave Real Estate Netherlands will be responsible for acquiring suitable industrial land across the target countries, seeking plots ranging from approximately 2,000 m² to several hectares. These sites must be capable of handling energy demands from a few to several tens of megawatts. Drawing on its international experience in developing large industrial sites, Flower is open to both purchasing and leasing land.
This partnership addresses the increasing strain on electricity grids and the growing demand for large-scale energy storage in Northwest Europe.
