Belgian property developer Nextensa has received the urban planning permit for its Lake Side project, signalling the final stage of the sustainable urban transformation of the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels.

Lake Side - Tour & Taxis, Brussels
This approval, granted after a permitting process that began in March 2023 and incorporated feedback from residents and authorities, confirms the project's adherence to all requirements.
The Lake Side development aims to create a comprehensive, sustainable urban district at Tour & Taxis, integrating residential, commercial, office, and leisure spaces. The project will include a variety of apartments, offices, retail units, and hospitality venues, alongside new public green spaces and over 7,000 m² of public facilities. Notably, it will also feature 166 regulated, affordable housing units, managed in partnership with citydev.brussels.
Representing a total investment of €555 mln over eight years, the Lake Side project will be developed in phases. It is designed to enhance the existing character of Tour & Taxis, fostering a dynamic, well-connected, and forward-looking community. A district-level geothermal system will provide sustainable heating and cooling, and Proximus is slated to begin occupying its new offices on the site starting in 2028.
Peter De Durpel, COO of Nextensa, said: “Obtaining the permit for Lake Side is an important milestone for the continued development of Tour & Taxis. This new sustainable district, located next to Proximus’ headquarters, will include more than 700 residential units and numerous public amenities.”
