Nordic hotel operator Scandic Hotels is expanding its presence in Germany by opening its third hotel in central Hamburg.

Scandic Hotel Hamburg
This new hotel, with up to 328 rooms, is slated to open in 2028 and will be part of a major redevelopment project near the city's main train station, transforming the area into a lively hub with offices, restaurants, event venues, and more hotels.
The hotel's central location will provide convenient access to Hamburg's public transportation network, including bus, subway, and commuter train lines. This project aligns with Scandic's goal to add approximately 15,000 rooms to its portfolio by 2030, with a focus on key German cities.
Scandic is partnering with B&L Group, which will construct the hotel and also owns the building for Scandic Hafenpark. This new hotel will cater to both business and leisure travelers and will join Scandic's other announced hotel near Hamburg's Berliner Tor station (expected to open in 2030) and the existing Scandic Emporio, which has been operating since 2008.
Jens Mathiesen, president & CEO, Scandic Hotels Group, said: “Hamburg is one of Europe’s most dynamic major cities and a strategically important market for Scandic. The new hotel in downtown Hamburg will further strengthen our presence and continue to deliver on our strategy of responsible expansion in Germany.”
Thorsten Testorp, CEO of B & L Group, stated: “The new Scandic hotel in the StadtKontor scheme marks a significant milestone to convert and revitalise one of the largest office ensembles in Hamburg's up-and-coming district of St. Georg. With the further use of the tied-up grey energy and the energy-efficient refurbishment, a pioneering range of modern working environments is being created.“
Jesper Engman, CDO, Scandic Hotels Group, added: “Our ambition is to establish hotels in areas with a constant movement of people. Being entrusted to open a third hotel in Hamburg within a short timeframe is proof that we have our guests and the public’s confidence to build further on our expansion journey.”
Hamburg, with its 2 million residents, holds the distinction of being Germany's second-largest city and Europe's third-largest port. It's a significant German hub, boasting over 16 million hotel nights annually and experiencing robust growth in both business and leisure tourism.
As of 2025, Scandic has revealed plans to launch eight new hotels, adding over 1,600 rooms across the Nordic countries and Germany.
