This new 38,000 m2 academic building, located near Bristol Temple Meads station, will host 4,600 students and 650 staff, focusing on advanced fields like digital engineering, AI, and business.
More than just a teaching space, TQEC will foster innovation and collaboration among academics, entrepreneurs, businesses, and the community. Its Bristol Innovations Zone (BIZ) will offer co-working spaces, labs, and training for up to 300 enterprise partners, leveraging Bristol's status as a top city for startups.
The campus also emphasizes community engagement, featuring public spaces like the Bristol Rooms for collaborative projects and the Story Exchange for inclusive dialogue, with local arts projects planned.
Construction involves over 450 daily workers, installing numerous glass and solar panels, walls, and floor tiles. Sustainability is key, with solar power and 130 new trees.
TQEC is a core part of the larger 135-hectare Bristol Temple Quarter regeneration, expected to create 22,000 jobs, 10,000 homes, and a £1.6 bn (€1.8 bn) annual economic boost. Its opening will coincide with a new entrance to Bristol Temple Meads station.
The University has already established a presence in the area with the Temple Quarter Research Hub, home to the Bristol Digital Futures Institute and MyWorld program, and a new Dental School that opened in 2023.
The Bristol Innovations Zone (BIZ) will offer adaptable co-working and event spaces, specialized labs, advanced equipment, training, support, and events.
Even a year before its official opening, BIZ is generating interest, with RANsemi Limited, a wireless semiconductor innovator, announced as one of its first members.
